Today I officially entered into the next decade of my life and to celebrate I am attending TIFF’s annual Boombox event at the Tiff Bell Lightbox in Toronto. The theme of this year’s event, Everyone will be famous for 15 seconds, is inspired by TIFF’s Andy Warhol: Stars of the Silver Screen exhibition which celebrates the acclaimed artist.
I really can’t think of a better way to celebrate my birthday then by attending a Warhol-inspired event. Besides spending time with friends, meeting new people and supporting the arts community, one of my favourite things about attending charitable events is planning my wardrobe. I’ve always loved matching my outfits to the theme or vibe of an event. If you are new to my blog, here are outfits I wore to past Toronto fundraisers:
- Boobyball 2014: Big Top Booby
- Operanation 2014: Light up the Night
- Motionalball 2015: Glitz and Graffiti
- ROM PROM 2015: Douglas Coupland: everywhere is anywhere is anything is everything
Warhol Inspiration
Andy Warhol had an incredible influence on style in the late 60s and throughout the 70s that left a lasting impression on the fashion industry. Diane Von Furstenberg, an American fashion icon most famous for the wrap dress, bold patterns and bright colours, was a great friend of Andy Warhol and in 2013 she released a collection titled, Pop Wrap, completely inspired by his works. It was a limited edition collection, however these amazing designs helped me put together my own Warhol-inspired outfit. Scroll down to see what I’ll be wearing this evening.
Let’s not forget about Warhol-inspired makeup. Black and yellow eyeliner with pink lips just screams 1960s fun!
Tonight I’ll be wearing an amazing vintage beaded SWEE LO dress with neon, sequin pop-art lettering that I purchased from eBay. It has an open back and sewn-in shoulder pads. I’ll be pairing this super fun dress with my yellow Aldo Ibenema heels (which I seriously own in six different colours) and this amazing yellow banana clutch that I found on ASOS for under $15. To complete my look I’ll be rocking these purple tassel earrings.

NEON POP ART GLAM
Dress: eBay | Heels: Aldo (similar here) | Clutch: Montiki (ASOS – sold out) | Earrings: Lisi Lerch | Lipstick: MAC (Pink Nouveau)
In the event you have your own Warhol party coming up, ASOS has a number of great dresses and jumpsuits with that 60s and 70s Warhol-flair. How fantastic is this coloured sequin jumpsuit? I was so close to purchasing it for Boombox and then found out my friend, who is attending tonight’s event with me, had already purchased it. Ha-ha I guess it is true what they say: great fashion minds think alike!
